IIDO List - User Guide

What is Timeboxing?

IIDO List is designed to make it easy to timebox your activities for each day.

Timeboxing is an effective productivity technique that relies on "implementation intention" – setting specific plans for when and where you'll complete tasks. This approach is backed by research and promoted by productivity experts. It's used by notable figures like Elon Musk and Bill Gates.

A significant problem with timeboxing is that it takes too much time to create your schedule each day. IIDO List aims to reduce that time to the absolute minimum.

How to Use IIDO List

Adding Tasks

You can add tasks in three ways:

1. Fast Add Button (Quickest)

Click the purple "Fast Add" button. Enter the task name. The task will be added as a Dormant, Floating task with default settings (order priority 1000, duration 30 minutes).

2. Add Floating Task

Click "Add Floating Task". Enter the name, priority order (lower numbers = higher priority), and duration. The scheduler will automatically fit this task into your available time.

3. Add Fixed-Start Task

Click "Add Fixed Task". Enter the name, start time, and duration. This creates a task that must happen at a specific time (like "Lunch at 12:30").

Understanding the Layout

Your tasks are displayed in two columns:

Managing Your Tasks

Timeboxing Feature

Create Timebox

Click "Create Timebox" and enter your target end time (e.g., 18 for 6 PM). The system will automatically select all tasks scheduled before that time as your timebox goals. Complete all tasks before your end time to maintain your streak!

This gamifies your productivity by tracking your streak of successfully completing all timeboxed tasks before your deadline.

Integration Features

Import Calendar Events

Click "Import Calendar Events" to connect your Google Calendar and automatically import today's events as fixed-start tasks. This feature allows you to:

First-time setup requires authorizing access to your Google Calendar. Events are imported as fixed-start tasks, so your scheduler will work around them automatically.

Add Default Meals

Use "Add Default Meals" to quickly add lunch and dinner to your schedule with preset times and durations. This is useful for:

Customize the meal names, times, and durations to match your schedule. You can edit or delete these tasks just like any other.

Pomodoro Timer

The built-in Pomodoro timer helps you maintain focus on individual tasks. Key features:

Use the Pomodoro technique with your timeboxed schedule: each task becomes one or more focused work sessions. This combines the structure of timeboxing with the focus of the Pomodoro method.

Priority and Scheduling

Best Practices

The goal is to spend minimal time managing your tasks and maximum time getting them done. Use Fast Add liberally, and trust the scheduler to organize your day efficiently.
